The Metamorphosis Reflective Essay

In the story The Metamorphosis written by Franz Kafka, Gregor, the main character was all about business. Now that he has transferred into a gaint bug really just ruined his reputation with his family. He had no social life. "Hung the picture which he had cut out of an illustrated magazine a little while ago and set in a pretty glit frame. It was a picture of a woman with a fur hat and fur boa"(Kafka 1). Gregor had no friends but a pitcure of a random women that had been cut of of a magazine that he called his friend. The day that Gregor turned into a bug was the first day that he had missed work. He was hopeless because he didn't know what to do with his new self. "He must have tried a thousand times, closing his eyes so that he would not have to see the wriggling legs, and gave up only when he began to feel a light, dull pain in his side which he had never felt before"(Kafka 1). He was stuck in his room. No one not even his family cared about him now that he had turned into a insect and can't pay the bills.

Gregor's father only cares about Gregor when he is wealthy and can pay the bills for his family. "His father clenched his fist with a hostile expression, as if he wished to push Gregor back into the room, then looked uncertainly around the living room, covered his eyes with his hands, and cried so that his mighty breast shook"(Kafka 6). Gregor's father is very violent towards Gregor because he is disappointed that no one can pay the bills. Gregor had very little freedom when he was working all the time. "But when he finally was successful in getting hi head in front of the door opening, it became clear that his body was too wide to go through any further"(Kafka 9). This shows a lack of freedom that gregor gets. Hes stuck in his room and can't get out. The only person who had enough bravery to help Gregor was his sister Grete. "But also because the milk, which otherwise was his favorite drink and which his sister had certainly placed there for that reason, did not appeal to him at all"(Kafka 9). Grete is the one taking care of Gregor, giving him foos so he doesn't starve, and reorganizing his room is that he is able to move around his room.

The Metamorphosis

My reflection on The Metamorphosis is very interesting on how the main character, Gregor changed dramatically into a giant insect. The details described by the author Franz Kafka are very well mentioned throughout the first few pages I have read so far..." He's a stubborn, and he's certainly not well, although he denied that this morning." Gregor is very stubborn. He doesn't want anyone to come see his hideous self. Gregor is very hard to have his mind changed and in this case having the doctor from his office coming and seeing him is not going to happen on Gregor's point of view.

The Metamorphosis is a very unoriginal story that I've never heard any other story like this before. I really like this story because it's not a original story were he finds a girl, eventually fall in love or get stranded on and island that I read about all the time. Its very different in a unique way that is really exciting to read. The imagery that Kafka writes gives me a great image in my head about what Gregor looks like, and his room in general.

Dante's Inferno Canto 28

Canto 28 is located in the second to last circle of hell. The reason why I chose this canto was because I thought the sin, divorce is not a good reason for a person to go to hell. If that was the case more then half of the world would be in hell. The punishment for this sin is that the sinners have to walk in circles until the devil comes and slashes them. It is very interesting what punishment the sinners have been given because I don't even think they should be in hell in the first place. Even when they are there, which they shouldn't be should have a less harsh punishment then getting slashed all the time.
