Citations on Chapters 8 and 9

"No, there were no more goals;all that was left was a deep painful longing to shake off this whole mad dream, to pit out this stale wine, to put an end to this painful, shameful existence"(Heffe 74).

Siddhartha wanted to wake up from this mad dream. He didn't like it. Although he has reached his goals of getting a job and living a normal life, Siddhartha doesn't want to end up like this.

"You too, after all, have already learned from the river that it is good to strive for downward motion, to sink, to seek depts" (Heffe, 89).

The river brings many lessons to be learned from. And Siddhartha has learned many lessons before from this fragile river. The river his where Siddhartha found his beautiful Kamala.
